Leading baby nutrition research for over 100 years
Our expert team at SMA® Nutrition is dedicated to understanding the unique nutritional needs of babies born prematurely and to applying these learnings to our own products. We have been leading research in baby nutrition for over 100 years and have produced SMA Gold Prem® 2, a nutritionally complete post-discharge formula for the dietary management of preterm low birthweight babies who are not solely fed breast milk.
SMA Gold Prem® 2 is a special catch-up formula intended for the dietary management of preterm low birthweight babies who are not solely fed breast milk. It is a nutritionally complete formula for use on discharge from hospital or when a low birthweight formula is no longer appropriate. It is suitable for use as the sole source of nutrition up to 6 months corrected age.
SMA Gold Prem® 2 should only be used following recommendation by a healthcare professional. For enteral use only. Your healthcare professional will advise you when to move from SMA Gold Prem® 2 to another formula.
Preterm is defined as infants born at or before 37 weeks of pregnancy. Infants who are born prematurely weigh much less than term infants, this is because a significant amount of the baby's weight gain occurs between 36 and 40 weeks of pregnancy.

Important notice
Breast milk is best for babies and breastfeeding should continue for as long as possible. This product must be used under medical supervision. SMA Gold Prem® 2 is not intended for use with newborn preterm babies, for whom fortified breast milk or a low birthweight formula such as SMA Gold Prem® 1 is more appropriate. SMA Gold Prem® 2 is not suitable for those who are allergic to cows’ milk protein, lactose intolerant or who suffer from galactosaemia or require a galactose free diet.
When bottle-feeding, do not allow prolonged or frequent contact of milk feeds with teeth as this increases the risk of tooth decay. Ask your healthcare professional or dentist for advice. Always hold your baby while feeding. Do not leave baby unattended as they might choke.
