SMA® PRO Follow-on Milk with NUTRI-STEPS® also contains Omega 3 & 6 LCPs (Long Chain Polyunsaturates). This is to help ensure that infants aren’t missing out on these important nutrients. Although LCPs can be made in the body, infants have a high demand for these nutrients and can benefit from an additional source.

*in powder formulation only; GOS/FOS = Galacto-oligosaccharides/ Fructo-oligosaccharides
The beneficial effect of essential fatty acids is obtained with a daily intake of 10g of Linoleic acid and 2 g of a-linolenic acid.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D helps bones to grow and develop by helping the body absorb calcium from the food babies eat.

info

The first 1,000 days of your baby’s life are very important for their future

The first 1000 days of your baby's life are very important for their future. This marks the time from the start of pregnancy to a child's second birthday. What and how babies are fed will determine a big part of their future health - helping set the foundations for life.

As the first year goes by your baby will move from just having milk to include lots of new foods. This will be an exciting time for you and your baby. However, we know from research that babies sometimes have more protein than they need but less iron and vitamin D compared to the recommended amounts.

SMA® PRO Follow-on Milk also contains NUTRI-STEPS®, our unique blend of ingredients, tailored to help support babies nutritional needs now, and as they grow, every step of the way, including iron to help support normal cognitive development, Vitamin D, Calcium, Omega 3 & 6 and GOS/FOS*.

*in powder formulation only; GOS/FOS = Galacto-oligosaccharides/ Fructo-oligosaccharides

SMA® PRO Follow-on Milk is Halal approved.

How to prepare your baby's feed

Whilst this product is made under strict hygienic conditions, it is not sterile. Failure to follow instructions on preparation and storage may make your baby ill.

  • Step 1

Pull the safety seal and open the lid. The scoop is provided under the lid. Lift the tab, pull on the foil seal, carefully and safely remove the seal and dispose of it.

  • Step 2

Wash hands well. After 6 months of age, if you are using a beaker it is not necessary to sterilise equipment, though you should ensure everything has been fully cleaned. If you are using a bottle and teat, sterilise all utensils according to manufacturers’ instructions.

  • Step 3

Boil 1 litre of fresh tap water. Allow boiled water to cool for no more than 30 minutes. Measure 180 ml (approx. 6 fl. oz.) of water into a beaker or bottle, carefully – the water is hot. Do not use artificially softened or repeatedly boiled water. Using the scoop provided, add 6 scoops of powder, levelling off each scoop with the back of a clean dry knife.

  • Step 4

Place a lid on the beaker, or teat and cap on the bottle, and shake well. Cool beaker or bottle under cold running water or in a bowl or jug of cold water until lukewarm. Test temperature by shaking a few drops onto the inside of your wrist.

  • Step 5

Once the feed has been made, store the scoop in suspension inside the can as shown and replace plastic lid.

Mix 1 scoop of powder to 30 ml (approx.1 fl. oz.) of water. Approx. 174 scoops per can. 1 scoop = 4.6 g. Approx. 29 x 200 ml servings per can.

Important feeding information

  • We recommend preparing each feed in individual beakers/bottles when required.

  • For hygienic reasons, discard unfinished feed in the beaker/bottle as soon as possible, and always within 2 hours.

  • Made-up SMA® PRO Follow-on Milk can be poured over cereals and mixed with food.

  • Do not add extra powder or water to make the feeds stronger or weaker and do not press powder into scoop. Using too much or too little powder can make your baby ill.

  • Never add any food to the milk in your baby’s beaker/bottle.

  • Do not warm in a microwave, hot spots may occur and cause scalding.

  • Remember, cows’ milk should not be used as a drink during the first year.

Important notice

The best way to feed a baby is to breastfeed, as breast milk provides the ideal balanced diet and protection against illness for your baby and also many non-nutritional benefits for both baby and mother. We recommend that you speak to your healthcare professional when deciding on your choice of feeding your baby. Professional guidance should also be sought on the preparation for and maintenance of breastfeeding. If you do choose to breastfeed, it's important to eat a healthy, balanced diet. Infant formula is intended to replace breast milk when mothers choose not to breastfeed or if for some reason they are unable to do so. A decision not to breastfeed, or to introduce partial bottle-feeding, will reduce the supply of breast milk. If for any reason you choose not to breastfeed, do remember that such a decision can be difficult to reverse. Using infant formula also has social and financial implications which must be considered. Infant formula should always be prepared, used and stored as instructed on the label, in order to avoid risks to a baby’s health. SMA® PRO Follow-on Milk is only suitable for babies over 6 months as part of a mixed diet. It should not be used as a substitute for breast milk during the first 6 months. The decision to start weaning or to use this product before 6 months, should be made only on the advice of a doctor, midwife, health visitor, public health nurse, dietitian or pharmacist, based on baby’s individual needs.

Important advice to mothers

The World Health Organisation (WHO) recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months of life. SMA® Nutrition fully supports this and continued breastfeeding, along with the introduction of complementary foods as advised by your healthcare professional.

Breast milk is best for babies and breastfeeding should continue for as long as possible. SMA® PRO Follow-on Milk is only suitable for babies over 6 months as part of a mixed diet. The decision to start weaning or to use this product before 6 months, should be made only on the advice of a doctor, midwife, health visitor, public health nurse, dietitian or pharmacist, based on babies individual needs.
