There may be some overlap between the old and new products, and you may have to transition from the old to the new product.
Your baby should be able to happily switch from the old formula to the new but if you would like to ease the transition, you might prefer to change over gradually. This may allow your little one time to adjust to the new composition of the milk. Please be assured that there is no change in storage, preparation or consumption instructions, but please refer to the label instructions for preparation and feeding.

Preterm is defined as infants born at or before 37 weeks of pregnancy. Infants who are born prematurely weigh much less than term infants, this is because a significant amount of baby’s weight gain occurs between 36 and 40 weeks of pregnancy.

How to prepare you baby's feed
Failure to follow preparation and storage instructions may make your baby ill.

Wash hands well. Sterilise all utensils according to manufacturers’ instructions.

Shake bottle well. Pour desired amount into sterilised baby’s bottle.

Milk can be fed at room temperature or warmed if desired. Check temperature of feed and feed immediately.

Ready to use liquids do not require any preparation, just shake the bottle and screw the orthodontic pre-sterilised teat on to the bottle. After use, discard bottle, teat and remaining contents. Strictly follow hospital procedures.

Ready to use liquids do not require any preparation, just shake and pour into a sterilised feeding bottle. Easy to pour and 200ml bottle can be kept in the fridge for up to 24 hours after opening if baby hasn’t fed directly from the 200ml bottle and that the milk has been decanted into a sterilised feeding bottle. Strictly follow hospital procedures.

- Check best before date
- After opening use immediately. If storage is necessary, store only in the fridge (5℃ or below) for no longer than 24 hours as long as baby hasn’t fed directly from the 200ml bottle and that the milk has been decanted into a sterilised feeding bottle
- Discard unfinished feed as soon as possible and always within 1 hour
- Do not alter or add to formulae unless medically directed
- Do not warm feeds in a microwave, hot spots may occur and cause scalding
- Do not freeze
- For enteral use only

SMA Gold Prem® 2 is a special catch-up formula intended for the dietary management of preterm low birthweight babies who are not solely fed breast milk. It is a nutritionally complete formula for use on discharge from hospital or when a low birthweight formula is no longer appropriate. It is suitable for use as the sole source of nutrition up to 6 months corrected age. SMA Gold Prem® 2 is not intended for use with newborn preterm babies, for whom fortified breast milk or a low birthweight formula such as SMA Gold Prem® 1 is more appropriate.
